Auris diesel preheating issue
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Toyota Auris with a diesel engine is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp not switching off, the check engine light being on, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause is a defective preheating control unit, possibly due to a faulty cable or plug connection. A similar case confirmed that the preheating unit was indeed the problem, and a mechanic's diagnosis verified this, leading to a successful repair.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't checked the glow plugs individually yet, but I will. What was the issue in your case, and how did you resolve it? Was it definitely preheating unit related?

Well, I am not a mechanic, and I can just tell you what happened to me. To be honest with you, it was the preheating unit indeed. I wouldn't mess with it too much. Better go to a workshop and have it checked properly. Better safe than sorry, right?

OK, thanks for the advice! Just got the diagnosis from the mechanic. You were spot on - preheating control unit was defective. Cable or plug connection was the culprit as suspected. 95€ and it's fixed!

Sounds familiar. I have an Auris diesel too, and had similar symptoms a while back. A persistent glow plug light can be a real pain. Did you check the glow plugs themselves? It could be them, but in my case it wasn't.
