Auris DPF and Smoke on Acceleration
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Toyota Auris diesel is experiencing issues with a warning light on the speedometer and smoke during acceleration. The local garage suspects the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) won't regenerate due to a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. Diagnostics indicated abnormal readings from the sensor, leading to the suggestion of replacing it as a potential solution.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Thanks for the quick reply! They did some diagnostics and said the readings from the sensor were off. Just wondering if it definitely sounds like the back pressure sensor or could it be something else?

Based on your symptoms and the garage's diagnostics, a defective exhaust back pressure sensor seems the most probable cause. If they are sure with their diagnostics I would advise to replace it.

Thanks! I'll get them to replace the sensor. They quoted me 245€, so hopefully, that'll fix it. Appreciate the help!

I had similar symptoms with my Auris (diesel too). Turned out to be a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. Is the garage sure that's the cause of your problem?
