Auris low brake fluid and pedal feel

I have a 2008 Toyota Auris diesel. The brake fluid level seems low, and the brake pedal feels strange. I've checked the brake lines but can't find any leaks. Could this be a hydraulic brakes issue?

Low brake fluid and strange pedal feel often point to worn brake pads or shoes. As they wear, the pistons in the calipers have to extend further, requiring more fluid. Have you checked the condition of your brakes recently?

I haven't inspected the brake pads myself. I'm not familiar with doing this. Can you tell how worn they are without taking the brake system apart? Could anything else cause low brake fluid?

Without taking things apart, it's hard to say exactly how worn they are, but if the fluid's low and the pedal feels weird, worn brakes are the most likely culprit. Other possibilities exist, like a leak somewhere in the brake lines, but these are way less common. I would suggest a visit to a workshop.

I took the Auris to a workshop, and it turned out that the brake pads were indeed worn. I had them replaced for 480€, and the braking feel is back to normal. Thanks again for your assistance.
