Auris Oxygen Sensor Issue

My 2019 Toyota Auris with a gasoline engine has a check engine light and increased fuel consumption at 85824 km. Error memory suggests an issue. I suspect the oxygen sensor or a cable/plug problem. Any similar experiences or thoughts before I spend money?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Auris, though I can't recall the exact mileage. The oxygen sensor is a likely culprit. Have you checked the wiring harness and the connector for any damage or corrosion? Sometimes it’s just a loose connection causing the trouble.

I gave the wiring a quick look, but nothing obvious. Is it worth using a multimeter, or am I wasting time? Was your fuel consumption noticeably worse?

I'd say take it to a workshop and have them diagnose it properly before you start tearing things apart. In my case it was indeed the oxygen sensor. The signal was erratic, messing with the fuel mixture. They charged me 95€ for replacing it, and the car ran like new again.

Cheers! Sounds like a workshop visit is next. 95€ isn't too bad, I was fearing the catalytic converter. Appreciate the insight – saves me guesswork!
