Auris transmission fault
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Toyota Auris Hybrid exhibited a transmission fault, indicated by an engine warning light and grinding noises during shifting, suggesting the gearbox was in emergency mode. The error code pointed to a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor, raising the possibility of low oil levels. A similar past issue suggested checking both the oil level and sensor. Upon inspection at a workshop, both low oil level and a faulty sensor were confirmed as the causes, and repairs resolved the problem.

Yes, actually, now that you mention it, the shifting wasn't always smooth in the last couple of weeks. Did yours turn out to be just the sensor?

Unfortunately, no. Low oil level was the culprit. I'd recommend getting it checked at a workshop ASAP, as driving it in emergency mode can cause further damage. The oil level might be the problem, but maybe also the sensor. They can diagnose it properly.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the workshop, you were spot on. Low oil level AND a faulty sensor. Total cost was 365€ including the sensor and oil. All good now!

I had a similar issue on my Auris. Same symptoms, warning lights and all. Did you notice any slipping or unclean shifts before this?
