Avalon faulty chip tuning

Hey, I've got a 2009 Toyota Avalon with a gasoline engine that's throwing some codes. I'm noticing reduced engine power, and my auto scanner confirmed an error. The car has 56946 km on it. Could a faulty chip tuning be the cause?

Interesting. I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 Series. Same symptoms – loss of power and a check engine light. Have you had any aftermarket modifications done to the car's computer, or any recent work on the ECU?

Yeah, the previous owner mentioned something about getting a chip tuning. Is it really possible that this could cause these issues? And is there a way to check whether the chip tuning is faulty or not?

Absolutely. Poorly implemented chip tuning is notorious for causing issues like this. The only way to be 100% certain is to take it to a workshop that specializes in car diagnostics. They can properly read the diagnostic code and maybe revert the chip tuning.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a local mechanic, and they confirmed it was a faulty chip tuning. They fixed it, and it cost me about 180€. Everything is running smoothly now!
