Avalon gearbox slippage
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Toyota Avalon is experiencing gearbox slippage and unclean shifting at 162,714 km. Diagnostics indicate a potential transfer case oil wear fault, possibly due to defective gears. A suggestion was made to check and possibly change the gear oil, which might temporarily alleviate the issue. However, a similar case revealed that the problem persisted, and professional assessment of the transfer case was necessary.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Thanks for the input. Could you elaborate on the specifics of the shifting problems you experienced, and whether changing the gear oil resolved the issue completely, or merely mitigated the symptoms temporarily?

Well, it was mostly unclean shifts, kinda clunky. Changing the oil helped for a bit, but honestly, the problem came back. Ended up taking it to a workshop and they confirmed it was something inside the transfer case itself. Probably best to get it checked out by a professional.

Thanks for confirming. Based on your experience, I will schedule a diagnostic appointment with a qualified workshop to assess the transfer case more thoroughly. The estimated repair cost is around 330€.

Huh, that sounds familiar. I've got an Avalon myself, though not sure of the year, and I had some similar shifting problems not too long ago. Did you check the transfer case oil level? Maybe try changing the gear oil first?
