Avalon hybrid fuel efficiency and starting issue
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Toyota Avalon hybrid is experiencing decreased fuel efficiency and occasional starting difficulties, with the 'check engine' light illuminated. The owner suspects the throttle valve or accelerator pedal module might be the cause. A similar issue in another Avalon was resolved by replacing a faulty sensor in the air intake, suggesting a workshop diagnosis could identify the exact problem and solution.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Thanks for the reply! Yes, the 'check engine' light is on. Did you ever figure out what exactly was causing it? And did you notice any difference in performance besides the fuel consumption and starting issues?

Turns out my issue was a faulty sensor in the air intake. The workshop changed something, and the problems were gone. With the check engine light, you should let the workshop have a look at it. Could be the same thing, or something completely different!

Appreciate the insight! I'll take it to the workshop. They quoted around 205€ to replace the accelerator pedal module. Hopefully, that fixes it. Thanks again for sharing your experience!

Hey! I have an Avalon too, though it's not a hybrid. I had something similar happen a while back - rough starts and the fuel economy went down the drain. Was your 'check engine' light on?
