Avalon Turn Signal Error

I've got a 2017 Toyota Avalon hybrid with about 109k kilometers on it. Recently, I've been getting a weird error – the turn signal lamp seems to be acting up. I get an error message right on the speedometer, and it's definitely a lighting fault. I checked the bulbs, and they look fine, so I'm guessing it's not just a simple bulb replacement. Could it be something more complicated, like a wiring issue? Has anyone else experienced anything similar with their Avalon?

It definitely sounds like you've got an electrical gremlin. The fact that you're getting an error message on the speedometer suggests the car's computer is aware of the problem. Since you've already checked the bulbs, the next most likely culprit would be the wiring or the connector. Have you tried wiggling the wires and connectors near the turn signal assembly to see if that makes the error come and go? Sometimes a loose connection can cause intermittent problems like this. Also, do you have access to an OBD2 scanner? It might give you a more specific error code to help pinpoint the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! Wiggling the wires is a good idea, I'll give that a shot. As for the OBD2 scanner, I don't have one myself. Do you think it's worth buying one just for this, or would it be better to just take it to a shop at this point? I'm not sure how much I want to mess with the electrical system myself, especially since it's a hybrid.

Given that it's a hybrid, and you're not super comfortable with electrical work, it's probably best to take it to a shop. The error message on the speedometer is a pretty clear indicator that the car's computer has detected a fault, and a professional scan tool will likely be able to read the specific code. It's probably a defective cable or a faulty plug connection. The repair should cost around 95€.

Alright, thanks for the advice! I wiggled the wires like you suggested, but no luck. I'll take it to a shop and have them run a diagnostic. Knowing the likely cause and estimated repair cost helps a lot, so I appreciate you sharing your expertise. Hopefully, it's an easy fix!
