Avalon uneven running
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Toyota Avalon is experiencing uneven running, a check engine light, and jerking during acceleration. Possible causes considered include issues with the ignition coil, oxygen sensor, fuel injectors, air filter, or crankshaft sensor. However, a suggestion to check for an exhaust leak led to the discovery of a leak, which was confirmed as the cause of the problem. Repairing the exhaust leak resolved the issue.

An exhaust leak? Interesting. I hadn't considered that. What kind of symptoms did the leak cause on your BMW exactly?

Yes, an exhaust leak. On my BMW, it caused a very similar rough running condition, the check engine light illuminated intermittently, and there was a noticeable loss of power, particularly during acceleration. Given your symptoms and the potential complexity of modern engine management systems, I would strongly recommend a diagnostic check at a reputable workshop before undertaking any repairs yourself. It may save you a lot of time and money in the long run.

Thanks for the advice! It turned out to be a leak in the exhaust system, as you suggested. Cost me 265€ to repair. Appreciate your help!

Uneven running, eh? I had a similar issue with my 2014 BMW 3 series. Check engine light, the works. Before you start replacing parts, have you considered checking for a leak in the exhaust system? It can cause all sorts of weird symptoms.
