Avancier Electrical Problems

Hi, I'm experiencing some electrical problems with my 2019 Honda Avancier, gasoline engine, at 142371 km. Recently, I've been getting undervoltage warnings. The vehicle starts poorly, and various systems seem to be failing intermittently. I've also noticed weak and flickering lights, along with a weak battery when starting the engine. I checked the battery terminals, and they seem clean. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

The 2019 Honda Avancier was experiencing electrical problems, including undervoltage warnings, poor starting, and flickering lights. The issues were likely due to a power supply problem, potentially involving the battery or charging system. Suggested solutions included testing the battery under load and checking for parasitic draw. Ultimately, the problem was resolved by replacing a heavily discharged and defective battery at a workshop.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Greetings. Based on your description, the undervoltage warnings, poor starting, system failures, and light issues collectively point to a potential problem within the charging system. Have you had the battery's voltage tested recently, both at rest and under load? Furthermore, a parasitic draw test could identify if any components are draining power when the vehicle is off. Could you elaborate on the 'failure of various systems'? Knowing which systems are affected can help narrow down the possibilities.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't tested the battery under load, just a quick voltage check when the car is off, which seemed normal. By 'failure of various systems', I mean things like the infotainment screen occasionally blacking out, the power windows being slow, and sometimes the ABS warning light flickers. What does testing under load involve, and how would I check for a parasitic draw?

The symptoms you describe certainly reinforce the likelihood of a power supply issue. Testing under load involves measuring the battery voltage while the engine is cranking to see if it drops excessively, indicating a weak battery. A parasitic draw test requires a multimeter to measure current flow with the engine off and all accessories supposedly off; any significant current indicates something is drawing power. Given your intermediate experience level, I would cautiously advise having a qualified technician perform these tests. Based on my experience, a heavily discharged or defective battery is the most likely cause, but a faulty alternator or wiring issues could also contribute. It might be best to visit a workshop to prevent further damage.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate the detailed explanation. I took it to a workshop, and you were right. The battery was heavily discharged and defective. They replaced it, and the total repair cost was 290€. Everything seems to be working fine now.
