Avancier start stop failure
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Honda Avancier with a gasoline engine and nearly 200,000 kilometers experienced a failure in its start-stop system, where the engine would shut off but not automatically restart, accompanied by a warning light. The issue was suspected to be related to a heavily discharged or defective battery. After consulting with others who had similar issues, it was suggested to check both the battery and alternator. Ultimately, replacing the degraded battery resolved the problem, restoring the start-stop functionality.

Thanks for the tip! I hadn't thought about the alternator. How did you resolve the problem on your Insignia? Was it just a new battery in the end, or was there more to it?

In my case, replacing the battery sorted it out, but the workshop diagnosed it as the root cause. I'd recommend getting your battery properly tested before replacing it – save you money if it's something else. A weak battery can cause all sorts of weird electrical gremlins.

Cheers! I appreciate you sharing your experience. I suspected the battery and you've given me the confidence to get it looked at. I booked it into my local shop, they confirmed the battery was heavily degraded, and installed a new one. Cost me 290€ all in, and the start-stop is now working perfectly again!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2014 Opel Insignia. The Eco mode was acting up similarly – engine shutting off fine, but then struggling to restart, with dash lights flickering. It could be a battery issue, but have you checked the alternator output as well? A weak alternator can prevent the battery from charging properly, which would cause start-stop to fail.
