Avantime Audio System Dead
Summary of the thread
The audio system in a 2001 Renault Avantime is completely non-functional, with no sound or display. The fuses have been checked and are fine, suggesting the issue might be with the display unit itself. A scan revealed an error related to the audio system, and it was confirmed that the display unit, which controls the entire audio system, was faulty. The solution involved replacing the display unit, restoring the audio functionality.

The rest of the dash seems fine, thankfully. No other lights or odd behaviour. I did scan it, and it's showing an error related to the audio system, but not much detail. Could a faulty display really kill the whole audio system like that?

Yep, very likely. The display unit handles more than just visuals, it runs the whole audio system. If it's throwing an error and everything else is fine, it points to a defective display. Best bet is to get it properly diagnosed, probably means a trip to a workshop.

Thanks for confirming my fears! I took it to a local garage, and you were spot on. The display was indeed faulty. Ended up costing me 725€ to replace, which is a kick in the teeth. At least I have tunes again. Shame about the dashboard controls...

Could be the display, yeah. Known issue. Does the rest of the dashboard seem normal? Any other weird electrical gremlins? Have you scanned it for error codes?
