Yes, it does feel like the shift lock is engaged. Shifting into neutral is rough sometimes, other times it feels fine. Is the control unit difficult to replace? Where is it located?

Okay, so it sounds like you have the same problem I had. I wouldn't attempt replacing the control unit yourself unless you're very experienced. The control unit needs to be coded to the car. The risk of damaging something is high. I would take it to a workshop, even though it's going to be costly.

Thanks for the advice. It was indeed a defective control unit. Cost me around 1000€ to get it sorted at the workshop, including coding.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my Avantime. Does it feel like the shift lock is engaged even when it shouldn't be? Because that can stop the starter from engaging. Does it shift cleanly into neutral? A defective control unit could cause this.
