Avantime Engine Misfire

My 2002 Renault Avantime (gasoline engine) is misfiring, check engine light is on. It jerks during acceleration, and engine power seems reduced. The car has 231562 km. Could a defective injector be the problem?

That sounds rough! I had similar symptoms with my old Saab, although it was a totally different beast. It turned out to be a cylinder misfire. Have you checked the fault codes? In my case, it was a faulty ignition coil. Might be worth a look before diving into injectors.

I have retrieved the fault codes, and they indicate a combustion misfire. Your mention of ignition coils is interesting. What exactly made you suspect the ignition coil on your Saab, and did the fault codes point directly to it?

The codes weren't super specific, just mentioned misfires. But a mechanic friend suggested swapping the coils around to see if the misfire moved to a different cylinder. When it did, we knew the coil was bad and I replaced it. But since yours are combustion misfires and you suspect the injectors, seems like you should check them first. Could be time for a visit to the workshop.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. I consulted with a workshop. After diagnostics, it was confirmed that the fuel injector was faulty and needed replacement, as I initially suspected. The repair cost was 515€.
