Avantime Hissing Noise and Fuel Consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Renault Avantime owner reports increased fuel consumption, a check engine light, and a hissing noise from the engine bay during acceleration. The suspected cause is a potential intake hose leak, possibly near the turbocharger. Another owner suggests checking vacuum hoses and the air filter, noting that a leak could lead to high fuel consumption. The recommendation is to visit a mechanic for a thorough inspection, as a similar issue was resolved by identifying a split in an intake hose.

You mention vacuum hoses – a valid point. Where did you find the leak in your system? Was it obvious, or did you use smoke or something to find it?

Well, I'm no expert, but after fiddling around, I couldn't pinpoint the exact spot. So, I took it to a workshop. They found a split in one of the intake hoses, near the turbocharger. I think it's best if you visit a mechanic!

Sounds like what I suspected. A workshop trip is probably needed. Thanks for confirming my thoughts and sharing your experience. I'll check the intake hoses again and get ready for the 100€ repair bill. I'll post the outcome.

Hissing, eh? Sounds familiar! I've got an Avantime too. Loud hissing plus the check engine light... Hmm. Did you check your vacuum hoses? They can get brittle and crack, causing a leak. High fuel consumption makes sense if you're losing pressure somewhere. What about the air filter? Is it clean? An engine misfire can also cause the same symptoms...
