Avantime Oil Temperature Warning Light

I've got a 2003 Renault Avantime, diesel engine, with a weird issue. The engine oil temperature warning light keeps popping up in the speedometer, and the oil pressure lamp lights up as well. I checked the error memory and there's a fault stored related to the oil temperature sensor. I suspect it might be a dodgy cable or plug. Anyone else had this?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had something like that on my Avantime. Is it intermittent, like a loose connection somewhere? It's like when your TV signal cuts out because the cable's not in properly. Have you checked the sensor itself?

Yeah, it's intermittent. The light comes and goes. Where exactly was the problem on your car? Was it the sensor itself or the wiring?

Mine was similar, flickering on and off. I'm no mechanic, but I wiggled some wires and it stopped for a while, then came back. Ended up taking it to a workshop. They sorted it, but I'm not sure exactly what they did. Worth getting it checked out professionally.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to a shop; turns out it was a faulty engine oil temperature sensor, just like I suspected. Cable was a bit corroded too. They replaced the sensor and cleaned up the connection. Cost me 95€, but at least it's fixed!
