Avantime Rail Pressure Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Renault Avantime diesel exhibited a check engine light, stalling at idle, and reduced power, with an OBD II scanner indicating a rail pressure sensor signal problem. The wiring was checked, but further guidance was sought before replacing the sensor. Suggestions included checking the fuel filter and lines for blockages, and ultimately, the sensor was confirmed faulty by a workshop and replaced, resolving the issue.

I'm using a mid-range OBD II scanner that's worked well before. I replaced the fuel filter 10,000 kilometers ago, but I can check it again. Could a faulty fuel injector cause these symptoms, or is the rail pressure sensor the likely issue?

A faulty injector could theoretically contribute, but the error code points to the rail pressure sensor. Given the symptoms and code, the sensor is likely failing. I would recommend taking it to a local workshop to verify the sensor's function.

I replaced the rail pressure sensor after the workshop confirmed it was faulty. The repair cost 240€. Thanks for the help!

I had a similar issue with another car. Rail pressure sensors can cause that. Before replacing it, check the fuel filter. A clogged filter can cause pressure issues. Also, inspect fuel lines for kinks or blockages. What diagnostic tool are you using? Cheaper ones can be inaccurate.
