Avantime rough running and stalling

My 2001 Renault Avantime, gasoline engine, is running rough, stalling at idle, and jerking when accelerating. The check engine light is on. I suspect a defective ignition coil, cable, or plug. Has anyone else experienced similar woes?

I also have an Avantime. Sounds awfully familiar. Did you check the spark plugs? Engine hesitation and stalling can also point to misfires. Coil failure might be the culprit. I would also check that.

Yes, I examined the spark plugs; they appear to be in reasonable condition, although not pristine. Was your issue indeed coil-related, and if so, did you encounter any specific diagnostic codes or other telltale signs?

Yes, in my case it was a faulty ignition coil in the end. Initially, I also thought it was something minor, but all the symptoms pointed to the coil. If you are unsure, I would suggest taking it to a trusted workshop.

You were spot on. It was indeed a defective ignition coil. The cable connection was defective. I replaced it, and the Avantime is purring again. Total cost: 95€.

Good evening. Rules Avantime 2.0 -16v - Turbo petrol 163 hp - from 01/2003 approx. 181,000 km. The electrical fault warning light comes on, a reading was taken which showed Accelerator Pedal fault. Found a used one in France from a 3.0 V6 with the same code - Replaced. Then the throttle body was found used in Spain and replaced. During the test, the alternator warning light came on; the power steering sensor just above the alternator was leaking oil internally, which was going onto the charging indicator plug. Cleaned the alternator and plug with spray. Replaced the sensor and solved the non-charging warning light. But the electrical fault warning light came on again and the reading showed a Throttle Body fault. The classic procedure (both recommended ones) was carried out. But some claim that at the time, the Avantime had a disc for throttle body configuration (can anyone confirm this?). Thanks👍

It's great that you've already taken several steps to address the issue. Since the electrical fault warning light persists and the reading shows a Throttle Body fault, it might be worth checking the wiring and connectors related to the throttle body for any signs of damage or corrosion. Ensure all connections are secure and clean. If the problem continues, consider having a professional perform a more in-depth diagnostic to rule out any other underlying issues. Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions!
