Avensis ABS and Steering Issues

Hi, I have a 2001 Toyota Avensis with a diesel engine and about 133,000 km on the clock. Recently, the tire pressure low warning light came on. Alongside this, the ABS lamp lights up, I'm experiencing a vibrating steering wheel, and it feels like I need to put in more effort when steering, almost as if the power steering is failing. I've checked the tire pressures with my tire gauge, and they seem fine. Any ideas?

Hey! I had something similar happen with my Avensis. I was constantly refilling the tires, thinking they were punctured. Turns out it was something else. Did you check all the tires? And have you noticed any unusual wear on them?

Yes, I checked all the tires. The pressure seems consistent across all four, and I haven't noticed any unusual wear. What was the 'something else' in your case? Was it also causing the ABS and steering issues?

For me, it turned out to be a defective valve in one of the tires causing slow pressure loss. It wasn't obvious at first. The shaking and ABS issues were probably due to the uneven tire pressure it caused over time. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop; they'll be able to pinpoint the leak properly.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on – a defective valve in the tire. Replaced it, and the total repair cost was 280€. Everything seems to be working fine now.
