Avensis Alarm Failure

I'm having a weird one with my 2008 Toyota Avensis diesel. The alarm system is completely dead! I ran diagnostics and it's throwing up a 'siren communication fault' error stored in the error memory. Could a defective cable or plug connection really cause the whole alarm to just give up like this? Anyone seen this before?

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane a few years back. The whole security system went haywire, flashing lights, the works. Did you check the wiring harness near the alarm controller itself? Is it possible that the problem could lie elsewhere, like in a faulty controller unit perhaps?

Interesting! I haven't gone as far as digging into the alarm controller unit itself. Where exactly is that located on the Avensis, and is it easy to access? Also, what was the ultimate cause of the alarm issue on your Megane?

On the Megane, it turned out to be a corroded connector on the siren itself, but tracing the wiring harness is still worthwhile. Honestly, if you're not super confident with electrics, it might be worth getting it checked out by a professional. I ended up taking mine to a workshop and they sorted it pretty quickly.

Thanks a lot for the tip! I followed the wiring harness from the alarm siren, and sure enough, found a dodgy-looking connector. A bit of cleaning and contact spray later, and everything's working perfectly again! Cost me 95€ in the end for the cleaning products. Cheers!
