Avensis audio system failure

I'm having a nightmare with the audio in my 2015 Toyota Avensis, diesel engine. The whole audio system is completely dead. No radio, no navigation sound, nothing. I've checked all the fuses I can find, and they seem fine. The error memory has a code stored, but I don't have the equipment to read it myself. Anyone else had a similar issue with their Avensis? It's driving me nuts!

Summary of the thread

The audio system in a 2015 Toyota Avensis was completely non-functional, with no sound from the radio or navigation. Despite the dashboard controls lighting up, there was no audio output, and the user had checked the fuses without finding any issues. The problem was suspected to be a defective display or head unit, as the audio processing is often integrated there. The solution involved taking the car to a workshop, where it was confirmed that the display was defective, and it was repaired to restore functionality.

Sounds frustrating. When you say completely dead, do the dashboard controls still light up and appear to function, or is the whole display blank? Have you noticed any speaker crackle or static noise before it died completely? Any recent work done on the car, like jump starting it or anything that might have messed with the electrics? Knowing these will help narrow it down.

Good questions! The dashboard controls light up and seem to work, but there's just no sound coming out. I haven't noticed any speaker crackle or static noise beforehand, it just stopped working all of a sudden. And no, no recent work or jump starts or anything like that. Could it be a Bluetooth problem maybe?

Okay, the fact the controls light up points away from a simple power issue. Given the sudden death and the error code, plus no prior speaker crackle, I'd lean towards the display itself being defective. The audio processing is often integrated into the head unit, so a fault there would kill all sound. While Bluetooth could be a factor, a head unit failure is more likely. Unfortunately, you'll need to get the error code read to be sure, but I'd prepare for a trip to the workshop.

Thanks for the help! I took it to the shop today. Turns out you were spot on – the display was indeed defective. Cost me 725€ to get it sorted, but at least I have tunes again! Cheers for pointing me in the right direction.
