Avensis Automatic Transmission Problems

My 2001 Toyota Avensis diesel is having automatic transmission issues at only 39672 km. It's shifting erratically, the transmission light is on, and it sometimes gets stuck in emergency mode. Could undervoltage be the cause? Any ideas?

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same thing happen with my Avensis a while back. Is it super jerky when it shifts, especially going uphill? And does it feel like it's struggling to find the right gear?

That's exactly it! Jerky shifting, especially uphill, and a definite struggle to find the right gear. What exactly was wrong with yours? I'm trying to avoid getting ripped off by some dodgy mechanic!

Yep, sounds like the same issue! Honestly, I tried messing with it myself, but I just ended up making it worse. My advice? Just take it to a trusted workshop. They'll be able to diagnose it properly. I had to get the oil replaced, and it fixed it. Good luck!

Thanks so much! I took it to a trusted workshop, and they confirmed the automatic transmission oil was worn, likely causing undervoltage. The oil replacement cost 240€, and now my Avensis is shifting smoothly again. I really appreciate your help!
