Avensis Coolant Loss

Hey, my 2000 Toyota Avensis with a gasoline engine has a problem. The coolant level is constantly low. Check engine light is on and there's an error stored. I suspect it's due to the low coolant, but I can't find any obvious leaks.

Dude, I had a similar thing with my Avensis, though mine is a bit newer, maybe 2005? I was constantly topping up the coolant. Have you checked the usual suspects like the radiator hoses and the coolant reservoir for cracks? Also, the radiator cap can cause issues if it's not sealing properly, leading to coolant leaks you might not easily spot. Are you seeing any puddles under the car after it's been parked?

Radiator hoses look okay at first glance. Coolant reservoir seems fine too. No puddles. How would I check the radiator cap? Just look for obvious damage?

Yeah, check the cap for damage but it's tricky. Sometimes they look fine but don't hold pressure properly. If you're not seeing any external leaks, it could be something internal, which is bad news. Honestly, sounds like you're past simple fixes. I'd get it to a workshop to have them pressure test the system. I bet is a coolant leak and it cost me like 52€ to fix it

Alright, thanks for the help. I got it checked out. Turns out it was a small leak in one of the hoses. Replaced it and topped up the coolant. All good now.
