Avensis Crankshaft Camshaft Error
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Toyota Avensis diesel exhibited a 'Crankshaft to camshaft reference value' error, resulting in a check engine light, reduced power, poor throttle response, and increased fuel consumption. The initial suspicion was a faulty crank sensor. After inspecting the wiring and considering the possibility of a failing cam sensor or timing chain issues, the crank sensor was identified as the defective component. Replacing the crank sensor resolved the problem, restoring the vehicle's performance.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Thanks for the reply. Wiring looks okay on initial inspection, no obvious damage. How did you eventually resolve your issue? Did you replace both crank and cam sensors? What was the final diagnosis?

I took it to a workshop in the end. They confirmed it was the crank sensor. They suggested that I could replace both sensors as a precaution, but only the crank sensor was defective. After replacement the problem was solved, and the engine ran smoothly again.

Appreciate the info. Crank sensor replacement did the trick, just like you said. 340€ all in. Runs like new now.

I had a similar issue with my Avensis. Same error code, same symptoms. Have you checked the wiring to the crank sensor? It could also be a failing cam sensor throwing things off. When was the last time your timing chain was inspected? It might be worth getting that checked as well.
