Avensis Diesel Fuel Pump Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Toyota Avensis diesel is experiencing starting issues, stalling at idle, rough running, increased fuel consumption, and a check engine light, with error codes indicating a fuel pump problem. The suspected cause is a faulty fuel pump cable or plug. A similar issue was resolved by addressing a faulty connection to the fuel pump, leading to a recommendation to have the vehicle professionally checked. The problem was confirmed to be a bad cable connection to the fuel pump, which was fixed by replacing the connector and wiring.

Thanks. Yes, I checked the fuel filter and it looked fine. Fuel pressure seemed okay too, though just barely. What exactly was your issue, and how did you figure it out?

Okay, if the fuel filter is fine and the pressure is mostly okay, then it might be what I had. Honestly, I spent ages messing around with it. In the end, I just took it to a workshop. They diagnosed a faulty connection to the fuel pump. Best to get it checked out properly. Don't want to risk making it worse.

Thanks. Based on your experience, I took it to a shop. They found a bad cable connection to the fuel pump. Replacing the connector and wiring cost 95€. Thanks for your help.

Sounds familiar. I had a comparable problem with my Avensis, although it's a slightly older model. Exact same symptoms: engine stalling, wouldn't start sometimes, and the fuel consumption went through the roof! I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. Did you check the fuel filter?
