Avensis electrical malfunctions

My 2003 Toyota Avensis, gasoline engine, is showing a fault in error memory, general electrical malfunctions, and the navigation system isn't working. Diagnostics point towards an implausible programming of the control unit. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Trying to exhaust all options before a software reflash that costs 240€.

Whoa, that sounds eerily familiar! I've got an Avensis too, and I went through something almost identical last year. Electrical weirdness, navigation gone bonkers... it was a nightmare. Was it preceded by any event, like a battery change or a jump start? Did the garage mention anything about specific error codes?

That's interesting! No recent battery changes or jump starts, everything was running normally. The error code was related to the ECU, suggesting a potential corruption or mismatch in the software. Did they give you a specific cause or a definitive solution back then?

They mumbled something about 'control unit needing recalibration' and 'software glitch'. Honestly, it all sounded like technical jargon to me at the time! I tried a few online 'fixes' but nothing worked. My advice? Bite the bullet and take it to a reputable workshop. They'll likely need to reflash the ECU. It's frustrating, I know, but could save you a whole load of headache in the long run. Did they say that the car could get bricked?

Thanks for sharing your experience! It sounds like my best bet is indeed to take it in for a reflash. I appreciate you confirming that a workshop visit is the right choice and that there is probably no workaround. Will post the resolution here once it's sorted.
