Thank you for your quick reply! I haven't checked those specifically. Where exactly is the charcoal filter located, and is it difficult to access? Also, is the purge valve easy to identify? I'm still learning about car maintenance.

The charcoal filter's usually near the fuel tank; the purge valve is in the engine compartment. I wouldn't recommend messing with it if you're not confident. You could try checking for any obvious leaks in the fuel lines, but honestly, it might be best to take it to a workshop.

I appreciate the advice. I took it to a local mechanic. The defective activated charcoal filter was indeed the problem. The repair cost me 275€. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I had a similar issue on my Avensis. It sounds like a fuel tank ventilation system problem. Have you checked the purge valve or the fuel tank pressure sensor? A defective activated charcoal filter can also cause these symptoms, since they are part of the ventilation system.
