Avensis Fuel Consumption and Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Toyota Avensis with 83,000 km was experiencing increased fuel consumption, power loss, stalling, and smoke during acceleration. The issue was suspected to be related to the fuel injection system, specifically a faulty plug connection on one of the injectors. After taking the car to a workshop, the problem was confirmed and resolved by cleaning the connection, resulting in improved performance.

Thanks! Where exactly are those cable and plug connections located? Is it something I can easily check myself, or am I better off taking it to a professional?

They're on the fuel rail, connected to each injector. If you're not comfortable working on the fuel system, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. Fuel injection issues can be tricky.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. It was a dodgy plug connection on one of the injectors. They cleaned it up and charged me 95€ – much cheaper than I feared! Runs like a dream now!

Sounds like a fuel injection problem. Have you checked the cable and plug connections to the injectors? A defective connection there could cause those symptoms.
