Avensis immobilizer issue

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my 2008 Toyota Avensis gasoline. It's got about 103k km on the clock. Recently, it just refuses to start. Sometimes it cranks, and sometimes it even starts for a split second before immediately dying. I've had it scanned and it's throwing up an error related to the immobilizer. I'm suspecting it might be a key programming issue, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any ideas where to start?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra, though it was a diesel. Same symptoms: engine would start and die instantly, and the error codes pointed to the anti-theft system. Did you try your spare key?

Yeah, tried the spare key already, but no luck. Still doing the same thing. Did you manage to fix it yourself or did you have to take it somewhere? What did it end up being?

I tried a few things myself but eventually gave up and took it to a workshop. They reprogrammed the key, and that sorted it out. It's probably worth getting it checked by someone who knows what they're doing. Could save you a headache!

Thanks for the advice! Took it to a local shop, and you were spot on - key reprogramming was the culprit. Cost me 45€, but at least it's running again. Appreciate the help!
