Avensis key fob and starting issues

I'm having some weird issues with my 2001 Toyota Avensis, gasoline engine. I'm getting an error in the memory, and the key fob is acting up – sometimes it won't lock or unlock the car. Even weirder, sometimes I can't start the engine without physically putting the key in the ignition! I'm guessing it's something with the bumper antenna, maybe a bad connection? Anyone seen this before?

Hey, I had a similar problem with my Avensis! I don't remember the exact year, but it sounds familiar. Was it the antenna cable or the plug connection that was faulty?

Well, the symptoms were almost identical, and a friend of mine checked it out and pointed to the antenna. Honestly, I didn't get my hands dirty; I just took it to a workshop. But it definitely sounds like the same gremlin!
