Avensis outside temperature sensor problems

My 2017 Toyota Avensis with a gasoline engine is showing a persistent fault with the outside temperature sensor, error code keeps popping up. AC won't start, spray nozzles freeze in low temps, and mirror heating is dead. Could a bad cable or plug cause all this?

Interesting. I own an Avensis too, and this sounds familiar. The AC and mirror heating issues especially ring a bell. Did the diagnostics point to the temperature sensor as the only problem?

Yes, the diagnostics said it's the temperature sensor. But can one sensor failure really cause so many different problems? Could a faulty temp sensor actually disable the AC compressor and the mirror heating?

In my case, the sensor was the problem. The ambient temperature reading affects several systems. It seems like a stretch, but replacing the sensor fixed it. The shop said this type of sensor malfunction isn't rare. Maybe talk to a technician?

Thanks for the advice. Taking it to a shop was the right move. Turns out the diagnostic was correct: the cable or plug connection to the sensor was faulty. Cost 95€ to repair. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.
