Avensis Overheating Electric Fan
Summary of the thread
The 2004 Toyota Avensis is experiencing overheating issues due to the electric fan not activating. The fan itself is functional, leading to the suspicion of a faulty cable or plug connection. A similar issue was resolved by addressing a defective connection, and professional diagnosis is recommended to prevent potential engine damage.

Coolant level is fine, I checked that first thing. The temperature gauge climbs steadily, especially when I'm stuck in traffic. If I get moving, it cools down a bit, which makes me think it's definitely the fan not doing its job. Do you remember what fixed your issue?

Given the coolant is topped up, it’s highly plausible it is your fan. In my instance, I brought my Avensis to a mechanic who confirmed that the fan wasn't getting power due to a faulty connection. I'd suggest you get it professionally diagnosed to be certain, overheating can cause serious damage.

Thanks for the advice! Turns out it was exactly what you said – a defective connection. Got it sorted at a local garage, cost me 95€. Appreciate the help!

I also own an Avensis. Overheating issues are never fun. Sounds awfully familiar. When did you last check the coolant level? Is the temperature gauge behaving erratically, or climbing steadily?
