Avensis stiff steering vibration
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Toyota Avensis is experiencing stiff steering and vibrations, possibly due to a faulty steering angle sensor. The issue might be exacerbated by misalignment, which can affect sensor readings. A suggested solution is to replace the steering angle sensor and ensure proper wheel alignment, ideally at a workshop equipped to handle such repairs.

That's interesting! I haven't checked the wheel alignment recently, but I didn't think it would cause the sensor to fail. Was your steering angle sensor actually faulty? Did a wheel alignment fix it, or did you need a new sensor?

Yeah, it turned out to be the angle sensor itself. The alignment was a bit off, but the sensor was giving bad readings. Alignment might help prevent it happening again, but you'll probably need to replace the sensor. Best to take it to a workshop with the right tools to check. I paid 195€ for the sensor and coding.

Thanks for sharing that! Seems like my hunch was right. I'll find a good workshop to deal with the sensor. Hopefully, a new sensor and alignment will get my Avensis back to normal. I appreciate the help.

I had something similar with my Avensis. Steering was harder, especially at low speeds, and there was a wobble. Have you checked your wheel alignment recently? That can mess things up and affect the angle sensor.
