Avensis transmission oil pressure fault
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Toyota Avensis was experiencing engine and transmission warning lights, with error codes indicating a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. The vehicle occasionally slipped gears, especially when cold, and entered emergency mode twice. A low gearbox oil level was suspected as a potential cause. The solution involved checking and topping up the transmission oil level and replacing the faulty sensor, which resolved the issues.

Thanks. Where exactly is the transmission oil level check point on the Avensis? And what type of oil should I use?

To be honest, checking the transmission fluid on the Avensis isn't straightforward. It doesn't have a dipstick like older cars. You'd need to access a specific fill plug on the transmission itself, and it's a bit fiddly. You'll need specific tools. As for the oil type, using the wrong one can cause serious problems. With the mileage you mentioned I would not attempt it yourself. I would suggest going straight to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to a garage, and you were spot on. Oil level was low; they topped it up and replaced the sensor as it was throwing errors. Total cost 365€. Runs like a dream now.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my Avensis. If the oil level is too low, the sensor might give false readings because it's not getting the correct pressure. Slipping gears and emergency mode are definitely symptoms of low oil or a faulty sensor. Have you checked the oil level? If not, that's the first thing I'd do. The emergency mode (limp mode) is a safety feature that restricts engine power to prevent further damage.
