Avventura VANOS Issue

I'm having trouble with my 2016 Fiat Avventura diesel, about 56,453 km on the clock. The check engine light keeps coming on, and I've noticed my fuel consumption has increased. Error codes point towards a fault in the inlet VANOS mechanics, likely a defect in one of the camshaft solenoid valves or a power supply issue. Has anyone else experienced something similar with their Fiat?

Summary of the thread

The 2016 Fiat Avventura diesel is experiencing a check engine light and increased fuel consumption, with error codes indicating a fault in the inlet VANOS mechanics. Possible causes include a defect in one of the camshaft solenoid valves or a power supply issue. A suggested solution is to inspect the wiring to the VANOS solenoid for any loose or corroded connections, particularly focusing on the connector. If the issue persists, visiting a workshop for professional diagnosis and repair is recommended.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my Opel Astra, although the engine is gasoline. The check engine light was on constantly and the fuel economy tanked. The error code also pointed to camshaft issues. Did you check the wiring to the VANOS solenoid? It might be loose or corroded.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't checked the wiring specifically yet, just generally inspected the area for damage. Where exactly should I be looking on the VANOS solenoid? Is there a common failure point I should focus on?

On my Astra, the connector itself was the problem. It had become brittle and cracked, causing an intermittent connection. Visually inspect the connector and the wiring leading to it very carefully. Honestly, though, given the symptoms and error code, it might be best to get it checked by a workshop. I ended up doing that and saved myself a lot of headache.

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate you sharing your experience with your Opel. I'll take a closer look at the wiring, but it sounds like a workshop visit is inevitable. I just got a quote for around 250€, which seems reasonable. Hopefully, that'll sort it out. Cheers!
