Aygo belt tensioner issue
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Toyota Aygo owner is experiencing issues with the belt handover, suspecting a defective belt tensioner. A similar problem was shared by another person with a different car, where a faulty serpentine belt tensioner pulley caused noise issues. The recommendation is to have the tensioner checked by a mechanic to confirm the diagnosis and proceed with necessary repairs.

Interesting. How did you figure out it was the tensioner and not something else, like the idler pulley?

The mechanic confirmed it. The belt bringer/handover on the tensioner was indeed defective. Given your Aygo's mileage, it might be worth getting it checked at a workshop; the repair eventually cost me 455€.

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Corsa. The serpentine belt tensioner pulley went bad, causing a horrendous belt squeal and engine noise. It's like a rubber band that’s lost its elasticity; it can’t keep things tight anymore.
