Aygo Clutch Switch Problems
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Toyota Aygo diesel exhibited issues with a faulty clutch pedal switch, leading to a non-functional gear selection display, cruise control inoperability, and intermittent starting difficulties. The problem was suspected to be due to a defect in the cable or plug connection. Suggestions included inspecting and wiggling the connector at the clutch pedal switch, checking the wires for corrosion or breaks, and using a multimeter for continuity checks. Ultimately, replacing the clutch pedal switch resolved all the issues.

When you suggest 'wiggling the connector,' are you referring to the connector at the clutch pedal switch itself, or are there other related connectors I should also examine? Also, regarding the wire inspection, would a multimeter be advisable to check for continuity, or is a visual inspection typically sufficient?

Yep, I meant the connector right at the clutch pedal switch. Give that a wiggle first. But since you've got multiple systems acting up, it might be worth tracing the wires back a bit to see if they join any other connectors or wiring harnesses. Toyota wiring can be pretty robust, but you never know! A multimeter would definitely give you a more definitive answer than just eyeballing it. Check for continuity, and also voltage drop while someone operates the clutch. Honestly though, with all those symptoms, and especially if you're not super comfy with auto electrics, it might be worth a quick trip to a workshop. They'll have the proper diagnostic tools to pinpoint the problem fast.

Following your advice, I inspected the wiring and connector at the clutch pedal switch. I didn’t see any breaks, but I decided to have the switch replaced. The total repair cost was 95€. This fixed all the issues. Thanks again for your help.

Whoa, that's a crazy combo of symptoms for a little Aygo! The gear selector display going bonkers along with the cruise control and starting issues definitely points towards an electrical gremlin tied to that clutch switch. Have you tried wiggling the connector when the ignition is on (but engine not running!) to see if anything flickers on the dash or if you hear any relays clicking? Also, have you checked the condition of the wires going into the connector itself? They might be corroded or even broken inside the insulation. Sometimes, just flexing the wires can reveal a break. Good luck!
