Aygo gearbox slippage
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Toyota Aygo diesel is experiencing gearbox slippage and erratic shifting at 36,875 km. The initial suspicion is that the transfer case oil might be causing the issue, potentially due to defective gears. A suggestion is made to check the oil level and condition, as worn gears could be the cause. Ultimately, a workshop diagnosis confirms defective gears in the transfer case, aligning with the initial suspicion.

The oil level seems fine, but I haven't checked the oil itself. How quickly did your issue progress? Was it immediate, or more gradual?

In my case, the slippage started gradually but worsened over a couple of weeks. Given your mileage and the symptoms, I'd advise having a mechanic inspect the transfer case and gear oil. Defective gears will only cause further damage if left unattended, you might want to go to the workshop.

Workshop diagnosed defective gears in the transfer case, just like we suspected. Quoted 330€ for the repair. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I had a similar issue with my Aygo. Have you checked the transfer case oil level and condition? A simple oil change might do the trick, but worn gears could definitely be the culprit. How long has it been since the gear oil was last changed?
