Aygo oil pressure warning

Hi, I've got a 2015 Toyota Aygo with a gasoline engine and 98k km on the clock. Recently, the oil pressure warning lamp lights up intermittently, and there are some loud mechanical noises coming from the engine. I checked the oil level, and it's fine. Could this be pointing to a faulty oil pump?

I had something similar with my Aygo. Same symptoms, oil light and weird noises. Have you checked for any obvious oil leaks around the engine or the oil filter? Also, when was the last time you changed the oil filter?

Thanks for the reply. I didn't notice any oil leaks. The oil and filter were changed about 8k km ago. Could a clogged oil filter really cause such a drastic pressure drop and noises?

It's possible, a clogged filter can restrict flow. But honestly, with those symptoms and the mileage, it sounds like something more serious. It might be best to get it checked by a workshop. In my case, it turned out to be a defect in the oil pump, and the engine bearings were starting to suffer. Not cheap.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. Took it to the workshop, and you were right, the oil pump was failing. Total cost 755€ including parts and labor. Lesson learned!
