Aygo overheating active air flap fault
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Toyota Aygo is experiencing engine overheating and a check engine light, with diagnostics indicating an active air flap fault. The active air flaps are crucial for controlling airflow to the radiator, and a defective electromechanism could prevent them from opening, leading to overheating. It is advised to address this issue promptly by visiting a workshop to prevent further damage.

The diagnostic suggested a defective electromechanism. I'm not deeply familiar with the cooling system. Could this component cause such significant overheating, or could there be another issue?

Yeah, a defective electromechanism controlling the flaps absolutely makes sense as the cause of your overheating. If that little motor is toast, the flaps won't open when they're supposed to, and boom, no airflow. It's pretty common, sadly. I'd suggest getting it to a workshop sooner rather than later before you cause any further damage.

Thanks for the clarification and advice. I'm scheduling a workshop appointment immediately. Just so you know, the repair cost was 590€. I appreciate your help!

Hey! Active air flaps, eh? Sounds familiar. I've got an Aygo too. Overheating and that check engine light... Yep, seen that. Basically, those flaps are part of the cooling system – they open and close to control airflow to the radiator. If they're stuck closed, or not opening properly, the engine can definitely overheat. When the garage did the diagnostic, did they say why the flap was faulty? Like, was it a motor issue, or something else?
