Aygo preheating lamp stays on

Hi, I have a 2005 Toyota Aygo diesel with about 71435 km. Recently, the preheating lamp doesn't switch off, and the check engine light is on. I've also noticed some smoke when accelerating. Could a defective preheating control unit be the culprit? I checked the plugs and they seem ok.

I had a similar issue with my Aygo. The preheating lamp stayed on, and the engine light popped up. I'd suggest checking the cable connections to the preheating unit. A faulty connection can cause those symptoms.

Thanks for the advice. Did you also experience smoke when accelerating? And where exactly should I be looking for these cable connections? I visually inspected them, but maybe I missed something.

Yes, I did notice some smoke, particularly when the engine was cold. As for the cable connections, they are directly on the preheating unit, but if you already checked, maybe it's something else. I'd take it to a workshop if I were you.

Thanks. I took your advice and visited my mechanic. Turns out a cable or plug connection of the component was indeed defective, just like you said! Cost me 95€ to fix. Appreciate the help!
