Aygo start stop malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Toyota Aygo diesel with 196,354 km is experiencing a start-stop malfunction where the engine shuts off but fails to restart automatically, accompanied by an error code and warning light. The issue is suspected to be caused by a discharged battery, as the start-stop system relies on a healthy battery to function properly. The solution involves load testing the battery to confirm its condition, and if found discharged, replacing it, which resolved the problem in this case.

Thanks. I haven't load tested it yet. When you say 'similar issue', did you have the same symptoms—engine shutting off but not restarting, error code, and warning light?

Yes, those were the exact symptoms. The engine would cut out fine, but wouldn't restart, and the same warning lights came on. Given that your battery might be old, it's probably the source. I'd recommend getting it tested at a workshop.

Appreciate the confirmation. I took it to the workshop. The battery was indeed heavily discharged. I replaced it. Total repair cost 290€. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I had a similar issue with my Aygo. The start-stop system relies heavily on a healthy battery. When the charge drops too low, the system disables itself. Have you load tested the battery? That's the best way to see if it's the problem.
