Aygo Transmission Warning Light
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Toyota Aygo diesel owner experienced a transmission warning light, jerky shifts, and grinding noises, with an error indicating a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. The issue was traced to low transmission oil levels, which can cause sensor malfunctions and trigger emergency mode. The solution involved checking and refilling the transmission oil, which resolved the problem after a visit to a mechanic.

Interesting. I hadn't considered the oil level itself. The grinding noise makes me think it's something more serious. But where exactly do I check the transmission oil level on this thing? Is there a dipstick somewhere?

I don't think there's a dipstick, so it's not that easy to check. Given all the symptoms you describe, it might be better to go to a workshop before you ruin your gearbox. Better be safe than sorry!

Thanks. I appreciate the advice. I took it to a mechanic, and you were right about the oil level. It was very low, causing the sensor issue and everything else. Cost me 365€ to sort out, but at least it's fixed. Thanks again!

Hey, I had something similar with my Aygo, though I have the petrol engine. Is the gearbox oil level okay? Low oil can cause the sensor to give wacky readings and trigger limp mode. Not sure if it also applies to you but I hope so.
