Barchetta engine power loss

My 2005 Fiat Barchetta with a gasoline engine is getting reduced engine power. A scan tool shows an error. I suspect the chip tuning a third-party did might be the cause. Has anyone seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Fiat Barchetta is experiencing reduced engine power, with a scan tool indicating a generic engine malfunction error. The issue is suspected to be related to chip tuning performed by a third party five years ago. It is suggested that the tuning may have stressed a component, leading to the problem. A professional diagnostic and remapping at a workshop is recommended, which ultimately confirmed the tuning as the cause, requiring a remap and sensor replacement.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

That sounds like dodgy chip tuning. Have you read the specific fault code? Knowing that would narrow down the possibilities. Also, how long ago was the tuning done?

I read the code, but it's a generic 'engine malfunction'. The tuning was done maybe five years ago. It's been fine until now, which is weird.

A generic code with tuning in the mix definitely points to that being the problem. It might have stressed some component. Best bet is to get a proper car diagnostic at a workshop. They can probably remap it correctly or undo the tuning.

Took it to a shop. The tuning fried something, needed a remap and a sensor replaced. Cost me 180€. Thanks for confirming my suspicions!
