Barchetta Oxygen Sensor Heater Error
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Fiat Barchetta displayed a check engine light, diagnosed as an oxygen sensor heater circuit error, leading to increased fuel consumption. Initial checks showed no visible wiring damage. The issue was traced to a faulty connection to the sensor, which was resolved by fixing the cable and replacing the plug. After repairs, the check engine light was cleared, and normal fuel consumption was anticipated.

Besides the check engine light and fuel consumption, the engine runs smoothly. Could a faulty connection really cause that much more fuel consumption?

Yeah, a bad connection can mess with the sensor readings, making your car think it needs more fuel. Happened on my old Lancia, the ECU was getting wrong info. But with a heater circuit problem, it could be the sensor itself. A workshop can properly test it.

Thanks for the advice. It gave me the courage to go to the workshop. It was a faulty connection to the sensor, like you said. They fixed the cable, replaced the plug, and cleared the error memory. Total cost was 95€. The check engine light is off, and I hope the fuel consumption goes back to normal. Thanks again!

Oxygen sensor issues are a pain! My old Alfa Romeo had similar symptoms. It was a dodgy connection. Check the wires really carefully, even the hidden ones. Is it running rough, or just the light and fuel?
