Barchetta PCV Valve Issue
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a 2003 Fiat Barchetta experiencing issues such as the check engine light turning on and off, reduced engine power, and smoke during acceleration. These symptoms suggest a potential problem with the PCV valve. A fellow Barchetta owner confirms that these issues align with a faulty PCV valve and recommends consulting a professional mechanic for diagnosis and repair to avoid further complications.

Thanks. I haven't listened for a hissing sound, but I will. It currently has about 79668 kilometers. If it is the PCV valve, what was your experience? Did you try to fix it yourself, or did you go to a mechanic?

With that mileage, it's quite plausible. I wasn't comfortable tackling the replacement myself, so I took it to a trusted workshop. Considering the symptoms and potential impact on emissions, I'd advise the same. It could save you headaches. They quoted me 360€.

I appreciate the advice and your experience. Because of your input and the potential complexities, I agree that going to a professional is the best idea. I'll make an appointment with a good workshop to figure out the problem. Thanks again.

I also own a Barchetta and had similar symptoms a while ago: smoke, check engine light... It could very well be the PCV. Have you checked for any unusual noises coming from the engine, like a hissing sound? That's another telltale sign of a PCV problem. Reduced power is definitely consistent with that. How many kilometers on the clock?
