Battery Issues Plague Infiniti JX Solutions Needed

Hey everyone, my 2012 Infiniti JX Hybrid is giving me trouble starting up lately. The battery seems weak, and I've noticed the lights are dimming and flickering. I suspect it might be a severe battery discharge issue, but I'd like to hear from others who've dealt with similar problems. Has anyone experienced this? Would be great to know what repairs were done and how your mechanic fixed it. Any feedback would be really helpful!

Hey there! I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid (basically the newer version of your JX). I have some experience working with cars, but I mainly trust my mechanic for the complex stuff. Last year, my car had similar symptoms weak starts, dimming lights, and weird electrical behavior. Turned out it wasn't just the battery it was actually a defective control unit that was draining the battery. My trusted workshop diagnosed it and replaced the control unit, which set me back about 600€. Since then, everything's been working perfectly. What's your mileage, and have you noticed any other electrical issues? Also, have you had any warning lights on the dash? This info would help me give you more specific advice based on my experience.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My mileage is at 69236 KM and had my latest service about 2 months ago. I haven't noticed any warning lights on the dash yet, but it's good to know about the control unit issue you had. That's definitely something I'll keep in mind when I take it to the shop. Did your battery drain happen gradually, or was it more sudden? Mine seems to be getting worse over the past couple of weeks, but I'm trying to figure out if I should get it checked out ASAP or if I can wait a bit.

Hey again! Yeah, in my 2014 QX60 Hybrid, the battery drain was definitely more of a gradual thing. It started pretty subtly first just occasional dimming lights, then it got progressively worse over about 3-4 weeks until I couldn't ignore it anymore. Given that you're seeing similar progression and your mileage is pretty close to what mine was when I had the issue (I was around 73000 KM), I'd honestly recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later. Here's why: in my case, waiting actually made things worse because the constant draining and recharging cycles were putting extra stress on both the battery and the charging system. I learned the hard way that with these hybrid systems, what seems like a simple battery issue can sometimes be more complex. Since you mentioned your last service was 2 months ago, did they do any electrical system checks then? If not, I'd definitely get it looked at now better to catch these things early, especially with our model's somewhat complex electrical system. Just a heads up if it does turn out to be the control unit like mine was, don't let the price shock you too much. These hybrids can be a bit pricey to fix, but they're usually pretty reliable once you sort out the issue!

Thanks so much for the detailed advice! You know what, you've convinced me I'm going to call my mechanic tomorrow morning and get it checked out ASAP. I definitely don't want to risk making things worse by waiting. They didn't do any specific electrical system checks during my last service, so that's probably a good place to start. Really appreciate you sharing your experience with the control unit issue too at least now I won't be completely shocked if that turns out to be my problem as well. The price tag doesn't sound fun, but like you said, better to fix it properly and have it running reliably again. Thanks again for all your help!
