Beat Oil Temperature Warning Light Issue

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2011 Chevrolet Beat (gasoline engine). Lately, the oil temperature warning light keeps popping up on the speedometer. I also hooked it up to a code reader and it's showing an error stored in the memory. To top it off, the oil pressure warning lamp sometimes lights up too! I've checked the oil level, and it's fine. Could this be a faulty oil temperature sensor? It's driving me nuts!

Summary of the thread

The core problem involves a 2011 Chevrolet Beat experiencing an oil temperature warning light and occasional oil pressure warning lamp, despite normal oil levels. Possible causes include a faulty oil temperature sensor or wiring issues. Suggested solutions focus on checking the sensor's cable and plug for damage or looseness, with a recommendation to consult a professional mechanic if the issue persists. The problem was resolved by addressing a faulty connection, restoring the car to normal operation.

Interesting. I had a similar issue with my Beat a while back, though I didn't experience the oil pressure lamp. It sounds like your symptoms are pointing towards a faulty oil temperature sensor or, more likely, a problem with the wiring. Think of it like a loose wire on a lamp – sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Did you check the sensor's cable and plug connection for any damage or looseness? That's usually the culprit.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did give the cable and plug a quick look, but honestly, I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. What exactly should I be checking for? Is there anything specific I should wiggle or try to clean?

Alright, so when I say 'check,' I mean really check. Look for any frayed wires, corrosion on the contacts inside the plug, or if the plug is securely attached to the sensor. Try gently wiggling the wires near the plug while the car is running (be careful of moving parts!). If the light flickers or the error code appears/disappears, that's a strong indication of a wiring issue. However, if you're not comfortable doing this yourself, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. It cost me around 95€ to get it sorted, but at least I know it's done right and avoids potential further damage.

Thanks a bunch for the advice! I think you're right, I'm probably better off letting a professional handle it. I'll take it to my usual mechanic this week. It's good to know about the possible cable issue. I appreciate you sharing your experience; it helped me a lot. Turns out it was exactly as you said, faulty connection and that was the error! Car is back to normal!
