Cheers for the tip! Where exactly is that valve located? And yeah, it seems worse when the engine's been running a while, and hills are a killer. Is it easy to get to, or am I looking at a proper garage job?

OK, sounds very similar to what I had. You'll find the valve near the intake manifold, somewhere around the turbo. Honestly, unless you're confident fiddling with the turbo system, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. I messed around with mine for ages and ended up making it worse. In the end I had to take it in anyway. So yeah, workshop is the way to go!

Thanks a million! Took your advice and got it to a garage. Turns out you were spot on – the vacuum switching valve was kaput! New one fitted, cost me 140€ all in, and she's running like a dream again. Massive relief!

I had a similar issue with my Berlingo, though I can't remember the exact year. Check for the boost solenoid valve, also known as a vacuum switching valve. It's part of the turbo system. Is it only doing it when the engine is hot? Does it happen more often uphill?
